François Lacombe announced the start of the voting for line_attachment=*proposal, which is supposed to add information how lines such as power or telecom lines are attached to their supports.

Community

FOSS4G Korea 2019 will be held (automatic translation) at 10 and 11 October in Busan, South Korea. Shin Sanghee from Gaia3D, a Korean geospatial company, proposed (automatic translation) to hold a QGIS 3.8 translating party in the conference. Participants are listed at OSGeo wiki.

Borbus plans to continue his improvement of the coastline data for the UK with help of OS VectorMap. He already completed the coastline around The Wash and asked the community for advice on some points he noticed.

Events
In order to be able to help people in crisis areas quickly, helpers depend on high-quality maps. For many areas, these maps must first be produced. In doing so, Doctors Without Borders is supported by modern technology – and by thousands of volunteers. On 6 August 2019 from 17:00 – 20:00 meet interested people for a Missing Maps Mapathon in Berlin.
Humanitarian OSM
HOT is partnering with Development Seed, Facebook, and Microsoft to build AI-based mapping tools. With the ML-Enabler, that provides applications such as HOT-‘s Tasking Manager the possibility to make use Machine Learning, HOT has reached an important milestone.

The Instituto Geográfico Nacional de la República Argentina (National Geographic Institute in Argentina) is using OpenStreetMap data in its vector map starting from zoom 12 for more detailed maps at large scale. (Reported by OpenStreetMap Argentina)On the contrary, Institut Cartogràfic Valencià (from Valencian Community, autonomous community of Spain) uses its own data for detailed maps within its boundaries. They do rely on OpenStreetMap data for others regions and countries, at low scale.
Software
SMARTS (Scalable Microscopic Adaptive Road Traffic Simulator) is a traffic simulator developed at the School of Computing and Information Systems of the University of Melbourne. The simulator allows easy setup of simulations based on OpenStreetMap data.
Trufi, the app for shared taxis that serve fixed routes (we reported) which was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, now finds – probably under the name Trotro also the way to Accra, Ghana, – as can be seen at AccraMobile3. Trotro in Accra on Twitter.
Programming
Russian mapper Zkir created a new validator, which is used to verify availability of 3d models for churches and some historical buildings. You may ask: Why churches? Because they are the most noticeable objects and you can find photos for modeling on temples.ru. At this moment validation works in some districts of Moscow region, Vladimir region and Yaroslavl region (Russia), this is all that fits into a square degree [56°, 38°].
Releases
Version 19.06 of JOSM has been released. Enhancements include the possibility of filtering the imagery list by country name, HTTP/2 support, GUI improvements and many more.
User wambacher has released version 4.4.7 of his OSM Admin Boundaries Map. The improvements includes OAuth authorisation and better error messages.
The popular navigation software OsmAnd has been updated. The new version comes with the possibility to create application profiles that allow customised routing, a new compass on the map with the radius ruler and the ‘Turn Screen On’ option, which turns the screen on when approaching a turn while having the screen off during long straight sections.
The Tasking Manager team has released version v3.4.0 of their software tool for the coordination of volunteers and organisation of groups to map on OpenStreetMap. The changes in the new version are detailed in GitHub. People interested in the development can join the bi-weekly working group meetings.

The website Earth & Space Science Newsreports about a new map of global river systems called MERIT Hydro.The new dataset is a combination the the existing MERIT DEM, OpenStreetMap and Landsat data.
The Register reports that the Galileo satellite-based navigation system suffered a total breakdown. As of 18 July service has resumed but we are no wiser as to why it went down in the first place.
On 15 June 2019 Russian traveller Kirill Fronuk began a self-contained individual trek. He plans to walk from Orenburg (Russia) to the Arctic Ocean along the main tops of the Ural Mountains. You can follow his travel on the online map based on OSM.

The gaming studio Bublar Group released a trailer for the mobile fantasy game Otherworld Heroes, which is an augmented reality game for mobile phones. The proprietary map system is based on OpenStreetMap.
